The defining difference between Jack’s companies and their competitors lies squarely in the degree of field expertise that Jack brings to bear – personally seeing every project to completion. Construction companies, particularly in the past two decades, have been attractive business opportunities to many different types of entrepreneurs – many with only marginal building experience and training. This has yielded a large amount of construction that is completely substandard; contractors who are basically learning on their customers’ homes. The foundational training by veteran carpenters early in Jack’s professional career continues to pay huge dividends for his clients because this aspect of a professionals skills cannot be faked.
Yet there’s more to running a company than just field training. Prior to starting these construction firms, Jack was involved in helping Bond Technologies [now NorthPoint Solutions], a New York based technology and consulting firm, achieve global status. Hired as a trainee, Jack worked through a variety of client accounts to achieve Division Manager during his six-year tenure with the consultancy. Many Fortune 500 companies were among the clients who were able to benefit from Jack’s team of consultants. This executive experience also exposed Jack to the mentors and trainers that were not available in an entrepreneurial / construction setting. His expertise was refined in areas like sales, recruiting, training, and process management. The net result was an increase in the scope of responsibility that only a consultant’s rigorous training can provide. Ultimately, Jack used this experience to train his team and grow the company and its earnings.
The depth of Jack’s tradesman skills were developed by working for nearly a decade with several construction firms – all the while attending college part time. Companies like Dawson Construction provided the apprenticeship training that all tradesman need. Firms like Spages Construction provided commercial training while Giguere Construction allowed Jack to grow his first business and learn the basics of construction management. That business experience was followed up with the creation of Jack & Jack Whealan Construction, Inc, a firm that focused primarily on distressed property renovation and remodeling during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
A graduate, with honors from William Paterson University, Jack was able to round out his field training with the basics of economics, finance, and technology. Jack received awards for outstanding senior and academic excellence.
Jack enjoys the things that compliment his work and contributes to his local community through volunteer team leadership and construction projects.
